NOSTALGIA

"I had to leave my home to become a person who can decide freely."

The longing for faraway places seems like a promise of freedom. We believe that we can realise and rediscover ourselves abroad. There we try to transcend the horizons of our own existence. But in our restless search for our place in life, homesickness flares up in us again and again - a deep longing for a familiar community, a sense of belonging and grandma's apple pie.

In NOSTALGIA, choreographer Eva Borrmann explores the meaning of wanderlust and homesickness and uses language, movement and sound to create a space for inner dialogue between the two emotions. Together with author Robert Krupar and scenographer Daina Kasperowitsch, she uses interviews with representatives of various age groups and cultures to weave a moving tapestry of history that invites the audience to explore their own feelings. Homesickness or wanderlust?

NOSTALGIA shows theatre as an indispensable place that can encourage us to rethink our ideas of belonging and identity and celebrate the diversity of human experience.
